Three Strikes and You’re DEAD - Part 5
Thursday, October 4th, 2007It's like talking to Henry Kissinger while he eats taffy.
So I made off with a few artifacts from the PSOne era today. Apparently at the Game Trader I frequent, a disgruntled mother came in with a box of games and said she was extracting both revenge and money owed by selling off his collection of classic games. Among them: Symphony of the Night, Grandia, Kartia, Rhapsody, and Lunar: Silver Star Story. I passed on the first two (since my best friend had the former and the latter lacked a user manual), and gleefully picked up the last three at a considerable discount from eBay prices.
The Lunar is mostly complete, lacking the cloth map and soundtrack CD. If any of you fine readers would care to sell me said items, I'd be happy to make a PayPal transaction. My box is in worn but not disgusting condition; I'd be looking to improve that eventually as well. Essentially, I'd be willing to trade my copy for a better looking copy sometime down the line. For now, however, being able to finally play the damn game is reward enough.
Rhapsody, besides having a ridiculous music-based theme necessitating the embarrassing vocals of the English voice actors, was also the first Nippon Ichi game that showed off their SPRG tendencies. It'll be fun to see the prototype of the engine that runs two of my favorite games, La Pucelle Tactics and Disgaea.
Kartia seems to be a run-of-the-mill 1998 SRPG, but I'm a sucker for Yoshitaka Amano, and since he did the character designs, I'll at least be happy with the graphics as I slog through X+1 stages of tactical hell.
I've got quite a few of the collectible PS1 games (Valkyrie Profile, Einhander, Suikodens I and II), but I do lack a few in particular (Personas 1 and 2, Lunar: Eternal Blue, etc). If you happen to know where I can find them or know of any others you've always lusted after, leave a comment. I'd enjoy hearing about it.
