085 - The Short Form
Monday, September 10th, 2007And we close with a Buckaroo Banzai reference. My personal favorite.
The Previous Incentives archive is up (check the links on the right of the page). It's not complete, for two reasons: One, I kept poor, poor records of what I slapped up as an incentive in the first few weeks; and two, the "half comics" are being held back for the print edition. Except for the one I wrote a few weeks back. It's just getting erased from existence. C'est la vie.
On the whole I'm glad we did this storyline. To be honest, we'd thought about cutting it short, throwing up a quick "apology" strip about halfway through, and continuing as if nothing had happened. We eventually decided to stick with it, of course, and to see it through. I feel much better about that personally. Creative projects are difficult, and simply giving up halfway through isn't the best way to learn the hard lessons. Having gone through the process, attempting to right the ship, and being at least partially successful, was a great learning experience. Some of the major "legal accuracy issues" couldn't really be changed, but on the whole, it ended up being no more egregious than the average Perry Mason TV special. I can live with that.
I don't think we'll be attempting another 13-week epic extravaganza like that again. Rich and I have both seen the light, and short, light stories are kind of where it's at for us. It's our sweet spot right now. I personally can't wait to get back from vacation and tackle the new year of Entre Nous, even though the vacation hasn't even started.
I can hear Rich weeping tears of exhaustion from here.
