075 - Kendra’s Bad Day
Monday, August 6th, 2007Sometimes, you wish you could forget things you've heard in the past.
We had six comments on Thursday's comic. And I only posted once, leaving five! Five legitimate comments! Ha ha ha! Of course it's the bad programming language pun that gets all the attention. Perhaps we've found the core of our readership: programming punsters. Astute, alliterative allies of the strip might note that, because we've had an influx from the grand Kevin And Kell strip — a comic that made its early hay in the shining sun of internet metahumor — the hunger for a punchline about the possible puns predicated by programming acronyms has grown ravenous, and even our humble offering was accepted and commented upon. I'll admit it: the attention is sweet, a heady nectar.
Speaking of attention, attention seeking, and fame lasting fifteen minutes: I was on the radio. Or rather, my song was on the radio. Or rather, two songs I didn't write but mashed together in an interesting way were on the radio. You can hear it here (with the local radio DJ's intro). Yeah, I'm being a glory hound. It's in my nature. The file is 8 megs large; let that be your warning, o slaves to the cruel mistress that is dialup. If you care to spread the song to your friends (because I would surely love that), use this link. It's much higher in audio fidelity. Really, it's amazing how bad radio sounds when you're not listening from your car.
I'm done being a slovenly attention hog. But if you enjoyed any of it, all the better.
Oh, by the way! This week's voting incentive includes two of Rich's best Entre Nous v1 (High School Years) sketches: Dallas and Li. These were late character sketches, probably a week before we scrapped v1 to go to v2 (College Years), so you can see that he had pretty much mastered both characters.

I liked the song a lot. And yes… listening to radio from something other than the confines of the car really tends to give me quite a headache.
Anywho, back to the comic. Poor Kendra… I wanna know how some people get so intimidated by the police. I mean, they’re just like every other uniformed worker on the face of this planed IMHO. Yes, I know they’re one of the few occupations to carry a firearm, and to legally break the speed limit just to write someone a ticket for doing the same thing.

i can feel for Kendra in this case. first the Lie detector now the witness stand., poor Girl. i’m sure she doesn’t want to betray anyone as well.
this comic also confirms something about your style. you don’t give your women long eyelashes ore traditional feminine eyes.

One thing I’ve really come to enjoy about Rich’s style is the lack of hyper-feminine females. It’s so easy to over-accentuate certain features as a kind of gender shortcut. To be honest, I never noticed the lack of big eyelashes until just now. I scoured the old sketches, thinking, “Oh, he just doesn’t ink them.” But it’s true; Rich says they’re not part of his style, and that’s fine by me.

Oh don’t get me wrong i really like the realistic proportions. what caught my interest about the eyes was that i guess it gave them more of an individual and leaves their motives more open then suspect

Did we know previously that Kendra’s surname is Labrie?
Is her middle name Jamie?

Kendra’s last name has always been Labrie (though it was only mentioned in the cast page until this comic). And it’s indeed quite possible that Jamie is her middle name. I’m glad someone found the reference.
