066 - What’s The Charge?
Thursday, July 5th, 2007Leona always had a noble streak in her.
It should be semi-formally announced that we have entered the realm of commercialism, admittedly from a different direction than the obvious. We purchased an advertisement (preferably pronounced as one of the Queen's citizens would) in the ubiquitous webcomic Kevin And Kell. Many of you have come to us this week by pressing our spartan but refreshingly direct avatars in Bill Holbrook's world.
Welcome. I hope you enjoy what you see, and return in the future.
As I write this report from my bunker on Salmon Street, we are at the peak of the bell curve that is "Set Off All Your Gunpowder Quick Before The Police Arrive" week. Our neighborhood, last year barely three sparklers strong, was awash in green haze, percussion bombs, and other ordinance of a less-than-savory nature. Apparently, the new neighbors know where to buy "the good stuff" to use the common parlance. In the distance, to the west, one could see the tops of the official, city-run fireworks display, tame and meek with the distance and legality. On the streets, as they say, it's a much different experience. There's an opportunity, richly baited, to extend this metaphor into the class system of the United States, but I will avoid that. This time.
(By now, I'm sure you've noticed my heightened language, no doubt picturing me in a white powdered wig. I'll have you know, my wig is in the closet, and this stylistic aping of the fine feathered folks at Penny Arcade is by request. I do take requests, from time to time, like any good blues man.)
I must cut my post short; three Piccolo Petes and several more flying screamers are assaulting me, affecting the very solidity of my brain. I fear this is the end, the bitter, liquified end. More later, if I survive that long.

PS: the voting incentive is another archival sketch, probably my favorite of the sketches from summer, 2006. It's actually a one-panel comic, which makes it even better, even if I didn't write the joke.

Ironically that is what brought me here a few days ago and it was well worth the trip. as you can probably guess i read the comics then i return to the archive later and read the commentary while reading the comics again
