062 - Lucky Day
Thursday, June 21st, 2007It's the little things in life that you treasure.
I'm currently about half way through a 32 minute video of Ultimate Tetris Power. It brings back memories. I was one of the Tetrisites back in the early 90's, with my brick Game Boy and a copy of Tetris. In a 15-year-early show of Nintendo's Casual Gamer Initiative, my mother played Tetris as much as I did. I'd wake up in the morning to find my mother chuckling as she handed my Game Boy to me at the breakfast table, my previously unassailable high score blown to smithereens sometime after I'd gone to bed. I'd spend all of lunch period trying to best her, sometimes taking days before I could reattain the top slot.
To be honest, my memory is very hazy about whether the original Game Boy Tetris kept high scores after the Game Boy was turned off (via a battery, since this was pre-flash RAM). I want to say it did, but I can't be sure. Anyone out there remember?
Anyway, I have a mind to buy my mother a DS and a copy of Tetris DS (among other games), so we can play wi-fi battles against each other. I think she'd appreciate that rekindling of our puzzle game competition.
