043 - Therapy Options
Monday, April 9th, 2007Directness. It's the thing scandals are made of.
This comic started as an inside joke between Rich and I, something we'd never planned on happening. Then we had one of those "story talks" that usually ends up with us changing the direction a little and feeling a little rejuvinated, and all of a sudden, the joke Li presented us earlier on became not only possible, but readily apparent. There were talks about tweaking, about mitigating the setup, but in the end, Rich's good sense won out. All in all, I'm pleased he talked me out of my final script-change attempt on this strip… at 6pm last night.
Abandoned, never finished. But I love it anyway.

Matt and I often swap instant messages on upcoming script ideas. Often the process involves Matt pitching gags at me and I reply with, "Nahh…" or "Maybe." Eventually we hammer something out. I am very reluctant to edit a strip once it's done, even if it's just to replace dialogue. It's happened a couple times, but not nearly as often as Matt pitches changes to me. I guess that once I've finished drawing a strip, I get used to it, and I don't want to change it.
