Leona’s Story - Part 2
Thursday, March 8th, 2007Pride. It's the reason I'm not posting pictures from my tattered sketchbook. In this case, pride is a Very Good Thing. But pride can also blind, make a normally sane person delusional. Such people becomes possessed of fanciful thoughts like, "Wouldn't it be great if I told a four-part story about a minor character? And wouldn't it be keen if I did this storytelling in prose instead of as a series of strips, like every other sane comic creator?"
I'm not saying I made a mistake, but every creator gets that pang of second thoughts, of hindsight being much sharper, of higher definition than forethought. No, I won't say this story was a mistake, but I am feeling a little like a parent, watching his child in the school play, a long monologue to come, practiced at home over what seemed like five thousand sessions. And those five thousand practices seem now like five thousand too few.
So, go easy, and clap politely when the monologue is finished. The comics will return in short order, their high quality palpable, pressing against the thin membrane separating the heady cloud of greatness and the pleasurable œther of pure awesome.

You may ask yourself, what's with Entre Nous and tennis? It's kinda a throwback to EN v1. Remember how I mentioned that it was originally a softball sports comic? Well… It was a tennis comic before that. Mainly because Matt and I wanted to see Becky in a cute tennis skirt. I myself play tennis (badly) on Wednesday evenings. Anyway, even though the softball seems to have gone away, the tennis remains. (In EN v2… Mike was going to make a movie about tennis as a metaphor for life.)
