029 - Axis & Allies
Monday, February 5th, 2007The intent was to find the dorkiest, most involved, and impossible board game we could think of. Axis & Allies fit the bill. What other game allows you the time to play a game of Risk between turns? Massive.
When Rich first drew this comic, I was impressed by the elegant symbol of ruthless commerce he’d designed in the MorebucksĀ® logo. That might have to go on our first pieces of merch.
Today also marks the first strip that Mike and Dallas — best friends, mind you — have actually had a conversation. That’s a tragedy, one that I didn’t even think about until I wrote the script for 029. This is an insidious little problem we’ll rectify in the future.
I guess it’s all a part of learning how to manage a cast; most of my stories have involved very small casts of two or three characters. Having Mike, Dallas, Becky, Li, Kendra, Leona, and The Unnamed Fox all in the same strip makes for a bit of a balancing act. Heck, Kendra hasn’t even met the girls yet! All for the future.
I begin the work of writing the second main arc this week, so I’ll have a chance to improve on all of that. Hopefully, I won’t give Dallas and Becky a chance to play a full game of Axis & Allies between interactions with Mike.

I used to work at a Starbucks Coffee while I was in grad school. It was run by the store manager from hell. I had originally gave two weeks notice to quit so I could concentrate on my thesis project, but my midpoint review deadline got dropped on me so suddenly, I had to quit suddenly. I was told by my manager that if I quit without notice, I would never be able to work for Starbucks again. I replied that I hope I never have to work for Starbucks again. You can tell by how “Morebucks” is portrayed, that I still harbor some bitterness toward the experience.
