…but schtupid.

My apologies to Rowan and Martin. And the Smothers Brothers, too. They deserve an apology. Sometimes, I play Becky a little dim for laughs (this comic being a good example), but she really is pretty smart. Well, as smart as I can make her, anyway. I’ve heard it said that a writer can truly make a character no smarter than the writer. Sure, he can rely on books to help bolster the knowledge; but true smarts — the strategy, logical planning, the ability to tie objects to concepts, and so on — all come from a black, viscous pool of genius, which only goes so deep.

Perhaps that’s all pseudoscientific horse hockey. I don’t know. Sufficed to say, Becky is a college student who’s sometimes wise, sometimes otherwise. I think that’s pretty close to most of us in a lot of ways.
