015 - Dorks And Geeks
Monday, December 18th, 2006I don’t really understand the difference between “geek” and “dork” myself, but I have been assured that “geek” is somehow less offensive.
Last week someone asked about backgrounds, or the general lack thereof, in the comments. Well, yes, time, or the lack thereof, is a definite factor in the decision to mostly avoid backgrounds. The other reason is to avoid a cluttered feel to the panels. Since the comic is done in pencil and not inked, (another time based decision) backgrounds cold very easily muddy up the panel and make it harder to have the characters stand out. This is why I only draw background elements (usually very sparse) when the script demands it. Finally, I’m just not very good at drawing backgrounds. I play up my strength, which I feel is the expressiveness of my characters.
Anyway, I do hope you’re enjoying the comic anyway.
