Monday, November 20th, 2006I’m not sober at the moment, which isn’t all too surprising given that I am a writer. However, I do have an excuse approaching reasonable: Rich has been in town and we’ve finally had the opportunity to meet and get to know each other in person. it’s been a great weekend with stops at ridiculously large bookstores, The® Apple® Store®, and even time for about sixteen beers and mixed drinks, only a dozen or so of which were mine. So, you can see that I’ve been cutting back.
This strip involving Dallas wasn’t intended to occur until Strip 014 or so, but Rich rightly moved it here to give us an interstitial and an opportunity to meet Dallas before Dallas meets the girls. Dallas’s character design is such that, to me, he can carry a comic on his own due to the kind of iconic, pre-Mickey Disney feel Dallas has. In a world of cartoon bunnies, Dallas is pretty original. As a brief note: despite the hackneyed nature of the joke, this strip did indeed happen to me, while training for a call center job back in the 90’s.

So this is my last day here in Portland, I have spent a bit more than I planned on books… and a Mac mini. (I bought the Mac in Oregon to take advantage of the lack of sales tax, as opposed to the 8.5% sales tax in California.) So I’ve entered the realm of Mac dorks. It’s a god-awful cute little machine. Well, I had a good time here, who knows when I’ll be up again. I have to spend the next week packing for my next three months in San Francisco.
