004 - This Is The House
Thursday, November 9th, 2006The Apple MacBook. In late October, it seemed innocuous enough: a nice, mid-range laptop with some snazzy design features and a decent set of specs. I bought one. Of course, yesterday, Apple upgrades dang near everything about it — processor, RAM, hard drive space — and I’m left with a not-quite midrange computer with snazzy design features and a fairly cruddy set of specs. Four days out of the 14-day return window, too. So I do what any self-respecting computer owner does:
I beg. A lot.
Actually, it didn’t take that much begging. I called the Apple Store in town (since that’s where I bought it), and they said, “Sure, come on down, we’ll get a new one for you if you pay the $150 restocking fee.” That’s half the price of the RAM and HD upgrades, and I get a processor upgrade gratis. Plus, I got to spend a week of NaNoWriMo typing on a keyboard that I don’t ever have to see again. I have to say I’m pretty happy with those guys in Cupertino.

PS: And today’s comic title is a Eurythmics song reference. You weren’t going insane. It’s okay; I like Annie Lennox too.

So Matthew and I decided on a strip that only required a small cast of core characters, but still allowed room for supporting characters. I believe my suggestion was “Let’s do something like ‘Friends’… but better… and furry…”, and Entre Nous was the result of that. One of the themes that I hope to address with Entre Nous is the idea of chasing after that dream job after college; something I am all too familiar with. That’s why instead of the earlier high school characters, over a decade younger than us, the cast is now in their early to mid twenties. (Matthew and I are in our late twenties…)
